Kretschmann Family Organic Farm is seeking a Head of Vegetable Production
The Farm: 80A in Western PA-- one of the pioneers and leading certified organic farms in the East for 40 years. Mature and stable business; profitable; diverse. 20 A vegetables and 3A disease resistant orchard. Large CSA. Crew-- half dozen locals plus H2A field workers. With new hands on deck, we are open to evolving the current model.
Overview: We’re attempting a generational transfer. Daughter, Maria, plans on continuing farm, developing an estate cidery, and cooperatively manage and develop an updated farm plan. While this is a managerial position, there will be multiple hats to wear including field work--especially true while learning existing practices. HVP will take primary responsibility for vegetable production while Maria will do so for the apples.
Responsibilities: Grow for market organic vegetables from seed to harvest, including office, greenhouse, and field responsibilities.
Living: 10 min. to Zelienople, a charming walkable small town; excellent schools. Rural, but uniquely located 45 min. N of Pittsburgh, with cultural venues, top higher education, museums, and burgeoning food scene.
Start: Ideally, Dec. 2018. Or immediately--fall would be a great time to see the full scope. Interviews until the ideal candidate has been identified. The Head of Vegetable Production position is a unique opportunity for an individual with a calling and passion for mid-scale organic produce production
Salary: Commensurate with experience and responsibility.
