We grow on approximately 16 acres of fertile, alluvial soil along the Kennebec River and Merrymeeting Bay in a tight knit community of other small vegetable and fruit growers. Our farm is certified organic by MOFGA and believes strongly in the value of organic and sustainable means of vegetable production.

Description:

This position is critical to the functioning of the farm and while not new to the farm has been adapted for some on farm changes this year. The greenhouse/tunnel manager is largely self-directed on a day to day basic and requires someone with focus, greenhouse knowledge, and good communication skills to oversee the daily management of our heated propagation house and unheated production tunnels. Some of the seeding is monotonous, solo work, but the job also requires diligent record keeping, an eye for detail, and occasional leadership amongst other staff. The manager in this position will be responsible for all of the seeding of all of the plugs for the season, will oversee climate management of the tunnels, and will be responsible for keeping on schedule according to planting plans.

The responsibilities for this position include but are not limited to:
Seed seedlings on schedule, make appropriate prioritizations weekly, diligently follow protocol for seeding practices
Maintain tunnel climate and sanitation, make daily/seasonal adjustments to assure air flow, temperature, pest control
Maintain record keeping for high tunnels and propagation greenhouse
Scout for disease/pests and work with Bethany to establish and maintain spray/management practices
Maintain and adhere to schedules regarding planting and making appropriate preparations (ie hardening off seedlings, confirming planting schedule with field managers, spray schedules)
Lead other employees through tasks that require extra hands (eg high tunnel plantings, large GH seedings, pruning missions)
Pruning, pruning, pruning
Maintain a clean/organized workspace in greenhouse
Help with other farm tasks as the work demands

Job Requirements:
1-2 years working on farms with experience on the distribution side of production or in another closely related food field
Demonstrated organizational and multi-tasking skills, ability to follow priorities
At least basic experience with greenhouse/tunnel management on a working farm
Demonstrated experience with self-directed work and ability to lead others and follow standards
Commitment to professional and constructive communication with co-workers, employers, and other staff
Ability to follow strict protocol regarding the seeding of plants both in flats and field, ability to take constructive criticism to improve outcomes in the greenhouse
Flexibility to work other farm positions as needed, and demonstrated experience in other areas on the farm

Compensation:
$13.00-14.00/hr depending on experience. This is ideally a multi-year position, with room for higher pay and more responsibility in future seasons with success in position
3 paid days off to be used during the season for illness or personal use
Access to LOTS of delicious, fresh, organic produce included in position
Discounted access to CSA “add-ons” such as yogurt, eggs, cheese etc
We offer an end of season Bonus to all full-time employees who finish out the season (Approx. November 15th)
