The Long Barn Educational Initiative at Broadturn Farm, along with the University of Maine Cooperative Extension are offering three food preservation workshops led by Master Food Preserver Abby Huckel. These hands-on food preservation workshops will teach you some basic steps, like how to use water bath canners to preserve pickles, jams and fruits. Fresh produce and canning jars are provided.
The workshop topics & dates are as follows:
Strawberry Jam
Tentative Date: Sat., June 23rd
9:00am-1:00pm
$20 member/$30 non-member.
Nothing kicks off summer like strawberries! You'll spend the day outside harvesting strawberries and learning how to make and can jam!
Dilly Beans
Sun., Aug. 5th
9:00am-1:00pm
$20 member/$30 non-member.
Summer's in full swing- and so are the veggies! The perfect time to learn how to make pickles! We'll start by harvesting beans and making dilly beans, but you'll probably want to make all kinds of pickles when you get home!
Freezing & Drying
Sat., Sept. 29th
9:00am-1:00pm
$20 member/$30 nonmember.
Take advantage of the herb garden at Broadturn Farm by harvesting and learning how to dry them for winter! You'll also learn what to do with that bumper crop of tomatoes before it gets cold!
