The Maine Organic Farmers and Gardeners Association lost four friends over the past few months. What struck me, as someone who knew all four, is the many ways that people find the right place and time to make a difference.

One of the things that we learn early on farms is that there is a cycle to life. Crops grow, mature, and are harvested. Animals are born, grow, and die. After a while we look around and realize that we’re part of the cycle, too. Over the past few months MOFGA has lost a few “organic pioneers.”

Dr. and Mrs. Franklin Eggert, two founders of MOFGA and of the Coalition for Sensible Energy (CSE), along with their architect, David Wilson, received an award from CSE for their very energy efficient “envelope designed” home and for their use of solar hot water.
