Winter CSA:

Our winter CSA generally starts the week after Indigenous Peoples' Day (aka Columbus Day) in mid-October and goes bi-weekly until around Valentine's Day. Every other week, members picking up in Blue Hill, Camden or at the farm in Monroe get a bushel box full of squash, onions, cabbage, garlic, potatoes, greens (lettuce, spinach, mustard greens, kale, chard, arugula are among what we grow in our greenhouses), a rotating cast of roots (parsnips, beets, rutabaga, turnips, root parsley, celeriac, daikon) and other miscellaneous items (kohlrabi, fennel, herbs, brussels sprouts, etc). Half shares are also available, but only for on-farm pick-up. One unique thing we are trying for the first time in 2016 is a free choice model for those picking up at the farm: you pack your own box from what we have available, in whatever quantities and combinations you like.

The Farm and Its Farmers

North Branch Farm is family-owned and run by Tyler and Seth Yentes and Anna Shapley-Quinn. In 2009 we bought the farm and started rehabilitating the barn and preparing fields for organic vegetable crops, orchards, a nursery, higher quality hay fields, and grass-fed meat and milk production. We use a combination of horsepower, hand power, and tractor power on the farm.

Our Mission

Above high yields, we prioritize soil fertility and work to improve it from year to year. We hope to increase the social, environmental, and economic vitality of our community. We also work to minimize our reliance on fossil fuels by using horsepower and people power before tractors. We use only organic treatments for fertility and for pest and disease control, which means no petroleum-based products. Our goals are to strengthen the local and rural economies of Maine, earn a fair living, and supply high quality, delicious, and farm-fresh foods to our neighbors and community members.
