Galen's ancestors farmed in the Mid-West until the Dust Bowl / Great Depression / 'Grapes Of Wrath' migration, when they became economic refugee migratory-farm-workers.
He grew up farming in California to the dream promised by Conventional Ag.
He has chosen instead to be more sustainable and mindful of this planet we have been given, our health and how we treat each other.
He moved to Maine in 2005, and lives on an off-grid homestead with 150-acres of woodlot.
He enjoys foraging and gardening, he raises pigs and he is a beekeeper.
Galen served in the US Navy for 20+ years. Most of that time was on submarines, he also served a few years doing Law Enforcement duties for the military. He has been active with the VFW, the Grange, FreeMasons and the Shriners.
He serves on the board of the Penobscot county Cooperative Extension Office.
He co-founded the Penobscot County Chapter of MOFGA.
He serves on the Fair Steering Committee [volunteer T-shirt distributions] and on the Public Policy Committee.
